簡單的說: 內部震盪就是使用CPU本身的主震盪時脈，外部就是Timer1自行接一低頻震盪器(例如: 32768Hz)
同步模式就是跟主振盪器有關，Timer1 必須與主振盪器運作有關，沒有主振盪器的邊緣觸發 Timer1 是不會計數的。一般操作還是選非同步為主，Timer1 的 Wack-Up mode 是一定要用非同步模式的。

12.4 Timer1 Operation in Synchronized Counter Mode
Counter mode is selected by setting the TMR1CS bit. In this mode the timer increments on every rising edge of clock input on the T1OSI pin when the oscillator enable bit (T1OSCEN) is set, or the T1OSO/T1CKI pin when the T1OSCEN bit is cleared. If the #T1SYNC bit is cleared, then the external clock input is synchronized with internal phase clocks. The synchronization is done after the prescaler stage. The prescaler is an asynchronous ripple-counter. In this configuration, during SLEEP mode, Timer1 will not increment even if the external clock is present, since the synchronization circuit is shut off. The prescaler however will continue to increment.
